A Paradise for Water Lovers

Sonesta Beach Resort Bermuda

Even on an overcast day, the waters surrounding Sonesta Beach Resort Bermuda beckon.

Note: This hotel is no longer a Sonesta property. It was closed following a hurricane and renovations and purchased by another hotel company.

On a visit to Bermuda, we took a whirlwind tour of the island that included drive-bys past many of the island's best resort and cottage colonies. Of all the Bermuda properties we saw, one stood above all others for its location: Sonesta Beach Resort Bermuda.

Hugging three natural bays -- Boat Bay, Sinky Bay and Cross Bay -- at the ocean's edge, Sonesta Beach Resort Bermuda was built on an oceanfront peninsula that brings guests as close as possible to Bermuda's turquoise waters. On 25 acres, the crescent-shaped, three-story structure contains 400 guestrooms and suites.

Condé Nast Traveler rated Sonesta Beach Resort Bermuda one of the top 50 tropical resorts in the world.

Decorated in a palette of tropical pastels, every guestroom features a private terrace facing the water or a tropical garden. If you plan to make reservations, specify an ocean view room with a king-size bed.

Fun on the Premises

Swimming: Pink-sand beaches at Sonesta Beach Resort Bermuda invite ocean swimming. There's also an outdoor Olympic-size pool and glass-enclosed indoor pool, both of which are freshwater and climate-controlled.

Watersports: You can rent snorkel equipment and snorkel right at Sonesta Beach Resort Bermuda. Should you want to explore other waters on the island (and find a private cove for two), scheduled trips are available.

South Side Scuba and Snorkeling Co. has scuba facilities on the premises with PADI-certified instructors and scheduled lessons and dives. Parasailing, water skiing, paddle cats, floats, and canoes are also available.

Tennis: Improve your game at Sonesta Beach Resort Bermuda. Tennis clinics and lessons are given, six Laykold courts are available for day and evening play, and there's a fully equipped Pro Shop.

The European-style Spa at Sonesta Beach Resort Bermuda was recently named one of the world’s top 10 by readers of Travel & Leisure.

Games/Activities: Par-71 championship Port Royal Golf Club is approximately 10 minutes away, and there are nine other courses in Bermuda. The resort itself also offers nature walks, volleyball, mopeds and bicycles, horseback riding, plus a game room, contests, and classes.

A Ceremony to Remember

Considering the multitude of scenic spots within the property, it's no wonder many couples choose to marry at Sonesta Beach Resort Bermuda. To reserve one of the premier outdoor locations after 3pm on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday during high season (June, July, August), couples must gurantee to pay for full dinner service for at least 30 guests.

Kids and Conventioneers Welcome

One of the drawbacks of such a large hotel is that it can't afford to cater only to wedding parties, newlyweds, and vacationing couples. So Sonesta Beach Resort Bermuda welcomes families with kids. Youngsters stay free of charge in their parents’ room, dine from a special children's menu, and may participate in counselor-supervised programs from June 15 to Labor Day. The resort also does a large convention business.
