Myth No. 6:
Everywhere you look, there are honeymooners!
Some resorts cater expressly to couples, others have a mix of family vacationers. If you're looking for peace, solitude and the adult company, it's very relaxing to be on a vacation where (screaming) kids are at a minimum. None of the resorts we visited were loud, crowded, or intrusive in any way. And there's something very sweet about being surrounded by other people who are also in love.
Myth No. 7:
All-inclusives are expensive.
It depends on which one you pick. At the low end, there's Sandals Carlyle (check rates) in Montego Bay. The resort provides the basics at a value price, and you're still entitled to use the facilities of the posher Sandals resorts in Jamaica.
The oldest, largest, and most expensive resort I visited, elegant Half Moon Bay (check rates) offers the option of buying an all-inclusive package, a meals package, or simply paying for a room (and the quarters are glorious!). Here are just some of the things you get free with its all-inclusive Imperial Plan:
- private airport transfers
- daily sightseeing tour
- Champagne and Jamaican rums in your room
- welcome gift
- manager's cocktail party
- breakfast, lunch, dinner
- afternoon tea
- room service
- drinks at five different bars
- dine-around option at Round Hill Hotel, Coyaba Resort, Goodhope Great House, and Blue Lagoon Villas
- mini-bar drinks
- use of tennis courts, badminton court, volleyball court, squash court
- racquet rental
- table tennis
- croquet
- Nautlius gym
- aerobics studio and classes
- golf greens fees
- cart and caddy fees
- undersea tour
- sailing
- wind surfing
- glass-bottom boat ride
- bicycles
- sauna
- yoga
- massage
- horseback riding
- $25 gift voucher redeemable at selected on-property shops
- tax and 10 percent service charge
