Rising through the clouds, Mt. McKinley, tallest mountain in North America at 20,320 feet, stands at the heart of Alaska's interior. View it and the surrounding tundra comfortably aboard Gray Line's glass-domed McKinley Explorer rail car, which shuttles between Anchorage and the Denali National Park and Preserve. Outside your window, focus on moose, grizzlies, wolves, Dall sheep, lynx, mink, otter, and others wearing thick fur coats.

Once you arrive, have fun bicycling, boating, gold panning, canoeing, even hang gliding. Other activities range from easy walking tours to extreme sports such as whitewater rafting and mountaineering.

Interested in venturing off the beaten track? The scenic Alaska Highway runs 1,488 miles from landlocked Fairbanks to Dawson Creek, Canada. Snow-capped mountains and cobalt lakes, towering glaciers, and caribou herds will be your companions. Adventurers who take this ultimate road trip will find a four-wheel-drive SUV a smart choice.
