Cancun Update

Monday April 23, 2007
Two years ago the U.S. Government issued an announcement regarding a deterioration in local law enforcement and citing an increase in incidents of extortion and other crimes against tourists.

The warning has expired, and this morning a recent visitor wrote:

Just came back from Cancun and it seemed very safe to me. There was a heavy police presence and I had no problems whatsoever. My only complaint is that everyone (from taxi drivers to hotel workers to people on the street) will provide such good service to you in an effort to get a tip. Another tip: Negotiate. Almost every purchase/transaction/taxi ride can be negotiated lower, so never take the first price they offer you. Overall, fun, beautiful and safe place, although no place is perfectly safe.

Just came back from Cancun and it seemed very safe to me. There was a heavy police presence and I had no problems what so ever. My only complaint is that everyone (from taxi drivers to hotel workers to people on the street) will provide such good service to you in an effort to get a tip. By the end of the trip, you will wish you could go back to being in America where service is usually bad, but you have a lot more money left in your pocket. Another tip: NEGOTIATE. Almost every purchase/transaction/taxi ride can be negotiated lower, so never take the first price they offer you. Overall, fun, beautiful and safe place, although no place is perfectly safe.

(6) Victim of Cancun says:

i was in cancun on May 8, 2007….was brutally raped, beaten and left for dead by a security guard who worked at the bulldog cafe in the hotel zone. as of december 2007, he is not yet in jail due to mexican law…also, there was an eye witness to the rape and beating, who said, quote….”she is not the first girl he has done this to, only the first to go to the police”….also…quote…”he transformed into a beast and meant to kill her”….
PLEASE KEEP YOUR MONEY IN THE USA….THE MEXICANS ARE ALREADY STEALING ENOUGH AMERICAN MONEY…DONT GIVE THEM YOURS…

NO GO MEXICO…….AMERICAN AND PROUD….
