Slay the Monster in the Minibar

Thursday September 18, 2008
This monster has one goal: To suck the money from your pockets. And he strikes most when you are hungry and tired.

As hotels seek to increase revenues in a bad economy, many are installing upgraded minibars. Not only are these new boxes of temptation designed to be even more alluring, with clear-glass doors and "intimacy" kits; many are also calibrated to automatically charge your account even if you simply remove one of their bottles to cool your own.

How to Slay the Minibar Monster

  • Train yourselves to never eat or drink anything from your overpriced minibar
  • Stock your own drinks and snacks
  • Read your bill closely for incorrect minibar charges
  • Insist on an adjustment if you are overbilled.
