Checking in on Aruba
If you've hesitated visiting Aruba because of the Natalee Holloway publicity, today's arrest of a suspect may put your mind at ease. In actuality, this case has had little affect on tourism despite calls for a boycott from two Southern governors and Dr. Phil. When I visited Aruba in December, I discovered that hotel occupancy was as high as ever, a new all-inclusive was scheduled to open (and it since has), and most visitors were smart enough to understand that criminals were responsible for the girl's disappearance, not the population of the entire island or its tourism industry.
Since Aruba is one of the few Caribbean countries below the hurricane belt, it attracts visitors year round. For couples who want hot weather and wide, clean beautiful beaches to frolic on, Aruba is a good choice for a honeymoon destination.
